Candy Cane Covers
The best part of Christmas is watching the joy in children's faces as they experience the wonder of the season. Having projects you can make for or alongside them is especially fun and a great way to make memories.
The idea for this Candy Cane Cover project came from a candy cane cover I remember from when I was little. We would pull out the same boxes of decorations each year and put the hand-made and store-bought ornaments on our tree as if greeting old friends. They were just part of our history as a family and I loved everyone of them. I am not even sure where the old felt horse candy cane cover came from but it was part of the tradition.
Last year my daughter made more candy cane covers using the original as her model. Not only did she make another red horse like the one I grew up with but also added a giraffe, a zebra, and an unicorn. She just had her first child last month and although it will be awhile till Madeline is old enough to help trim the tree, I am sure she will love hanging these decorations on the family tree in the future.
