Week 2 Maker Recap

Terri Neil

On DAY 7 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Terri Neil, the talented lady, owner, and long arm quilting artist of Quilting Rubies revealed her Lagom Storage Bins trio makes. You can see her beautiful work on Instagram, HERE and on her Quilting Rubies website, HERE.

The Lagom Storage Bin is a pattern by Sotak Handmade and comes with 5 size options for all your storage needs. These bins would be ideal for gifting because you can use the bin as a basket to hold additional gift items and present it as one beautiful package! Perfect as hostess, housewarming, dorm, kids’ toys, or just about anything!

Terry used Art Gallery Fabric prints from my Kismet collection for the bin exteriors and the Fort Imagination print from my Lilliput collection for all the bin interiors. The largest bin uses AGF Canvas from the Kismet collection.

Beautiful leather handle details take these sturdy bins to the next level! Terri chose to make the x-small, small, and medium sized bins. The pattern contains 5 size options.

Elaine Satterfield

For DAY 8 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Elaine Satterfield, made my free Bucket Bag pattern! Elaine is owner of Create Joy Quilt Co and you can always skip the sewing and buy beautifully handmade items from her ETSY shop, HERE. You can also find Elaine on Instagram, HERE.

This roomy, hand-quilted, drawstring bag adds an elegant bo-ho look for kicking around at flea markets, traveling, going to the library, or for toting around craft supplies and projects.

Elaine used prints from my new Art Gallery Fabrics Tumbleweed collection and used a combination of chunky hand quilting and decorative machine stitching to quilt and embellish the bag. The roomy interior pocket are made with the Calico Days Aqua print from my Spirited collection.

Elaine added a couple new details to her bag that you won’t find in the pattern but can easily be reproduced. One, she added a tab and clip to the bag exterior for keys or a cute tassel like this one from Maureen Cracknell’s shop, HERE. Elaine also used binding to finish her bags top edge and used the new 2.5 Edition Binding from my new Tumbeweed collection for AGF.

Tracey Taber-Perry

On DAY 9 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Tracey Taber-Perry of @ttabes on Instagram delighted us with not one, not two, but a trio of beautiful quilted pillows!

Tracey used a variety of prints, mixed and matched between several of my Art Gallery Fabrics collections to get the perfect custom look. Fabric includes AGF Pure Solids in Pampas for the background on the snowflake pillow plus prints from my Tumbleweed, Willow, Kismet, Flights of Fancy, Shine On, Spirited, Heirloom, and Juniper collections!

For this Gifting Handmade project, Tracey shows us how you can turn just about any quilt block into a pretty toss pillow. The block patterns used in these samples are from quilt patterns. All three pillows use an 18’’ finished quilt block and have a zippered closure finished backing using the Sotak Handmade tutorial, HERE.

Block patterns:

Frostbite Block by Coronado Quilt Co.

Tracks in the Snow Block by Great Heron Thread Co. (temporarily closed so no link, sorry.)

Cozy Star Block by Sewspicious (this block also unavailable as it was part of a sampler sew along).

Even though 2 of the 3 blocks shown in this day’s project are unavailable it should get your ideas churning for how you can use orphan blocks you may already have laying around or other favorite quilt blocks to turn into pillows.

To achieve the full pillow-look, Tracey inserted 20’’ square pillow forms into her 18’’ quilted pillow covers.

Tracey Taber-Perry

You’re not seeing double, Tracey Taber-Perry has back to back days and showed off a new project using quilt blocks for DAY 10 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase. Find all Tracey Taber-Perry’s beautiful sewing projects at @ttabes on Instagram.

This time, instead of a pillow, Tracey shows us how a large quilt block can be made into a gorgeous tote bag! For this project, Tracey used Thai Charm LLC’s Stellar Tote Bag pattern that includes the block and tote bag construction instructions.

For this tote bag, Tracey used prints from my Art Gallery Fabrics Tumbleweed, Kismet, Listen to Your Heart, Fanciful, and Juniper collections.

Whether you’re planning to gift a tote or make one for yourself, bags like these are always welcome and oh, so useful! The large size makes this tote a great gift bag alternative or carry tote for shopping or on the go.

Marija Vujcic

On DAY 11, Marija Vujcic of @maraquiltdesigns on Instagram has us wanting to gather round her table and share a meal just to use those beautiful place mats and enjoy looking at the gorgeous table runner made from her Pieceful Pathways quilt pattern.

Marija used prints from my new Tumbleweed collection for Art Gallery Fabrics. Tuscany Silk blend batting by Hobbs Batting. Aurifil 50wt for piecing and 12, 28 and 50wt for quilting in addition to the Hills Stencil quilting stencil by Sew Harmony for her machine quilting.

Marija created her Gifting Handmade table runner and placemats from her Pieceful Pathways quilt pattern. You can find this pattern on her website Mara Quilt Designs, HERE. Marija designs quilt patterns that encourage you to play and the Pieceful Pathways does that as well with endless possibilities for block layout arrangement.

The clever, square placemats are the perfect size for a place setting and fitting a lot of guests around the table. The placemats in combination with the matching table runner would be an amazing gift to receive.

Marija used the throw size from her pattern, which makes total of 64 blocks (8” finished). All 64 blocks were used to make 1 table runner (16 blocks total, finished runner size 16” x 64”) and 12 placemats (4 blocks for each, finished placemat size 16” square). Depending on your needs, you could make a longer or shorter table runner and adjust the number of placemats.
