WEEK 3 MAKER RECAP

Melissa David

On DAY 12 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Melissa David of @quiltingabovetheclouds on Instagram had us all wanting to make clever wine totes like the trio of totes she created for this event.

Even though the three different wine totes were made from three separate patterns, they coordinate because Melissa used prints from my Art Gallery Fabrics Tumbleweed collection in each.

The two wine totes with zippers on them are patterns designed and sold by Ujamaa Grandmas under the label Ujamaa Bagettes Patterns. Look for the Wined Up and Wined Down patterns. See the totes in action, HERE.

The third wine tote was made from the Wine Tote and Mini Basket pattern by Ticklegrass Designs under her Bodobo Bags label.

Any of these totes would make a wonderful gift wrap for a bottle as a hostess gift or arriving for a gathering. The totes also act as insulation for a chilled bottle and are not only pretty but practical for serving, as well!

Sandy Saengsuk

On DAY 13 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Sandy Saengsuk of @thaicharmllc on Instagram had us swooning over her Spring Hill quilt pattern in Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids in Magnetism and an assortment of prints from my Tumbleweed, Juniper, Heirloom, Kismet, Kindred, Shine On, and Bookish collections.

Sandy does it all from pattern designing, long arm service, to fabric shop and you can find out more about her, HERE. You’ll love everything she does!

“Delectable Mountain Blocks are such a fun way to use Half Square Triangles to make a striking statement in a quilt. I (Sandy) love how they create beautiful movement in my Spring Hill Quilt. As part of Gifting Handmade 2024, I've added a lap-size option, with the choice to include sashing and border strips (Updated Pattern).”

Here’s fun bonus project for you that Sandy made up special for Gifting Handmade—it’s a bonus project to use leftover fabrics from the Spring Hill quilt for a quilted hot pad (Blog Post)—a quick and easy holiday gift for you to make for your friends and family.

Victoria Newmyer

On DAY 14 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Victoria Newmyer of @midlife_quilter on Instagram charmed us with her beautiful handmade pillowcases and coordinating bed runner made with Art Gallery Fabrics Blushing Pure Solids and prints from my Tumbleweed collection.

These beautiful French Seam Pillowcases are available as kits from Victoria’s Midlife Quilter shop and are a free tutorial on her blog, HERE. These charming pillow cases are perfect for sprucing up your holiday bed or guest bed and will take you all the way through Valentine’s day!

Quickly get just the look you want and freshen up your bed with a Rambler table runner that also works wonderfully as a bed runner! Layer the look up with a cozy comforter and soft throw and your guest won’t want to leave! The Rambler quilt patten is available in my shop, HERE.

Both of these projects are fast to make and will be welcomed gifts! The 100% premium certified by Oeko-Tex fabric that goes into every bolt of AGF quilting cotton has a percale-like feel and is the ultimate choice for bedding!

Joyce Ulm

On DAY 15 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, Joyce Ulm is back with a second bag project! Joyce is the owner of Eva Maes Custom Quilts and sells handmade items as well as long arms quilts custom orders. You can also find Joyce on Instagram, HERE.

If you remember on Day 5 of the first week of Gifting Handmade, Joyce showed us her Yarrow Wristlet project made from the Yarrow Noodlehead pattern? Today’s project is a coordinating Haralson Crossbody Belt Bag, also a pattern by Noodlehead.

Joyce selected prints from my Heirloom and Shine On collections for Art Gallery Fabrics for her bags and made a dreamy set just perfect for travel or hands-free shopping. I love the hardware and leather accents she added to her bag.

This would be a difficult gift to give away so you better make at least two so you can keep one for yourself!

Tamara Darragh

DAY 16 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase is also pattern release day for Tamara Darragh’s of @remivailstudio on Instagram, Maggie Poppins Tote pattern. Find Tamara’s pattern and discover her website, HERE.

Tamara’s Maggie Poppins Tote is not only pretty but it’s oh, so practical and roomy for all your things you need to carry to your next gild or workshop event, a diaper bag for a mom on the go, gardening supplies, shopping excursions, library bag, traveling, and on and on!

Made with prints from my Heirloom, Tumbleweed, and the canvas from Kismet collections for Art Gallery Fabrics, this tote bag appeals to fabric-lovers for creating a truly custom look through fabric. Tamara used a variety of Aurifil threads in assorted colors to accent the stitching on her tote.

Quilting Thread:

  • Aurifil 12 wt - 2460

  • Aurifil 50 wt - 2311

Topstitching Thread: for Handles, Binding, and Pockets

  • Aurifil 12 wt - 1148

If you are one (or that someone on your gift list) likes lots of pockets to stow and stash your stuff, then this Maggie Poppins Tote is a must-make for you! The roomy tote boasts exterior and interior pockets galore! Tamara used the versitile new 2.5 Edition Binding from my AGF Tumbleweed collection for the trim on her bag.

Sharon Holland

For the final DAY 17 of the Gifting Handmade Maker’s Showcase, I return to close out this year’s fun event with my next quilt pattern to be released! Timekeeper (formally called, Kilim) will officially release on November 20th (in three days) but I’m taking this opportunity to promote the pattern here since I’ve not had the chance to do much building up to the pattern release during the Gifting Handmade Showcase event.

I’ve actually made two Timekeeper quilt samples for the pattern release so I can promote the pattern with a preview here and still keep a little suspense for pattern release day on 11/20/24.

This baby quilt was made as a gift to my niece for her second baby that’s arriving in December. The pattern is very fun to make because it allows you to play with a lot of fabrics AND it’s a very fast make! Just cut the pieces and get right into sewing the quilt top. I made this baby quilt, start to finish in 3 days.

I used Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids (PE500, PE508, PE421, PE509, and PE518) and prints from my Fanciful collection for the quilt top. The backing is the Fleuron print from my Listen to Your Heart collection. On Wednesday, November 20th I’ll have a new blog post that’ll give you more details on both my Timekeeper quilts and a quilt show of Tester quilts to show you more of this scrap-lovers quilt pattern, and of course, the pattern available for purchase on the 20th.

The batting used in the crib quilt is Hobbs Batting Polydown. You know by now how much I love a puffy quilt! The luxurious puff and special edge treatment (keep reading) for the binding is sublime. I machine quilted this quilt with very simple straight lines, stitching vertically through the hourglass points and in the ditch and centered horizontally on the skinny strips for the horizontal quilting lines.

One of the bonuses of this Timekeeper quilt is the quilt pattern will teach you how to apply the optional Mitered Facing Binding instead of traditional binding. I’m a huge fan of this technique and although it takes me twice as long to finish the binding, it’s really worth it! I especially love it on this quilt design because it adds to the modern look with a clean-edged finish. The quilt is still bound but is done so by folding the edges’ seam allowance to the back of the quilt and finishing the back of the quilt like a bound rug would be finished. Tiny hand-stitched hem stitches hold the binding in place on the quilt back.

GIFTING HANDMADE 2024 WEEK 3 GIVEAWAY
