If you’re like me, one of the biggest reasons why I make quilts is to give them to people I love! A quilt really is like a hug and has the power to give comfort way beyond warmth.
Huge thanks to Stacey Lee Creative for heading up the Quilt Donation Drive which collects handmade quilts to comfort children entering foster care through Comfort Cases. You can also help by spreading the word about the drive on your social platforms and to your guilds, donate quilts, or simply following along on the blog hop. You can find out more about the Quilt Donation Drive and how to participate HERE.
This is the 5th year for the Quilt Donation Drive Blog Hop and I’m thrilled to be part of the impressive line up of participating bloggers. Yesterday, Victoria Newmyer of Midlife Quilter blogged about her donation and tomorrow, Nicole Moore of Sew Much More will be sharing her donation blog post.
For my Quilt Donation Drive Blog Hop post I want to encourage you to give or make and give a quilt but know your time is a precious thing so I have gathered a list of my favorite, quick and easy Sharon Holland Designs quilts that kids will love. The quilts are added to Comfort Cases (backpacks) and only certain size quilts are desired for this quilt drive.
Big Kids: 50″ x 50″ (slight variations accepted)
Baby Quilts: 30″ x 40″ (slight variations accepted)
The quilts in the following list will fulfill the size requirements and are beginner friendly and fast to make. I’ve added links to the quilt names and they can be found either in my Shop page or my Freebies page.
Roundabout
Here’s another very fast quilt to make for a baby. Again, cut out the pieces and get right into assembling the quilt! I made this sample from flannel and it made the snuggliest quilt.
Hugs & Kisses
The baby quilt size in the Hugs & Kisses pattern falls right between the big kid and baby size requiremnets so would work for either age child. This is a great beginner quilt pattern and also good if you’re looking to use up some of your stash.
Charming One
The free Charming One patterns is a true scrap quilt and made from squares. The beauty of this type of quilt is you can make it to whatever size you want! The charm of the quilt is all the fabrics that can be used and makes an I-spy of pretty prints for the child to discover.
Charming Nine
Just like the Charming One pattern above, the Charming Nine is a scrap quilt that lets you customize what size quilt you want it to be. It’s easy to make and loved by all.
Platform
Platform is a free quilt pattern that has graphic appeal and only need four (large) blocks to make a kids size quilt.
Please help spread the word about the Quilt Donation Drive and consider sending a hug to a child entering foster care. Learn more about the drive, HERE.
