Say, hello to Rickrack, the newest pattern in my SHOP! I’m in love with this quilt and knew it was the one I wanted to make for my new Kindred collection for Art Gallery Fabrics.

The new Rickrack pattern comes with five project sizes: Pillow, Crib, Twin/Full (depending upon how the quilt is turned on the bed), Queen, and King. The cover quilt is the twin/full size (72” x 90”) and shown above on a full (double) bed.

I always let a collection tell me what sort of quilt it would like to be made into and Kindred wanted to be scrappy, boho, and vintage! I patterned the Rickrack quilt off of a vintage quilt I own (and love). The original quilt is a true scrap quilt and lots of fun but from a pattern writing and making perspective, a hard one to write and cut out. So…I went scrappy but a controlled scrappy to make buying fabric amounts tidy and cutting out a breeze. You still get scrappy but in an organized way.

I’m right in the middle of a move this week, in-fact, the moving van is parked outside as I write this blog post and the house is swarming with people! I was able to complete the sewing and photography for my Kindred Look Book over the span of the last 2 weeks. Between trips to the new house, which the bed photos were taken in my new guest room and packing up the old house, I didn’t have time to send my quilt out to be long armed so I tackled this one myself on my domestic sewing machine and wonderful Arrow cabinet sewing surface and love the results! I used Hobbs Batting Tuscany Supreme 100% Unbleached Cotton batting inside for a thick but traditional feel. I eyeballed corner to corner on the diagonal points of the squares to create a grid across the quilt and it was fast, easy, and really the perfect look!

The fabrics used in my cover quilt are from my new Kindred and Fanciful collections for Art Gallery Fabrics. I used the red, For You Token print (bottom) in the quilt and for the backing and love how that tomato-red acts as the background ‘chain’ secondary pattern in the patchwork.

I used the QuiltCut Strip Savvy XL Slotted Ruler to quickly cut out all my squares. Here’s an Amazon Affiliate link to the one I used...HERE

Leah Bruski

Leah Parker Bruski of @lapinsta on Instagram’s stitched this beautiful Rickrack pillow in Art Gallery Fabrics from Maureen Cracknell and AGF Studio. It’s been fun getting to know Leah through her quilts and I love the fresh take she has added to my group of testers with her sunny California outlook. Leah hand quilted her pillow top for a wonderful texture and that extra special touch!

Joyce Ulm of Eva Maes Custom Quilts

Joyce Ulm used Katarina Roccella’s Mindscape and Seedling collections for Art Gallery Fabrics to make a twin/full size Rickrack quilt. Moody blues, mauve, and peach create a rich and elegant palette. Sharon Holland

I love making these mood board graphics for my testers so much that I wanted one for my quilt make, too! I ask each tester to pick some inspiration photos on Pinterest so I can include one in the graphics to tell more of the story behind the quilt colors, fabric selection, and general mood/aesthetic behind their quilt. Tracey Taber-Perry

This adorable crib quilt was made by Tracey Taber-Perry and it uses a mix of Art Gallery Fabric checked prints but mostly prints from Jessica Swifts new Timberline collection. These moody forest colors of ochre, caramel, teal, and pine are right on trend for today’s gender neutral nurseries. Tamara Darragh

As you recall from last weeks Twofold pattern release, Tamara Darragh is the newest tester to my Testers Team and she knocked it out of the park with her twin/full Rickrack quilt version! Tamara used all Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids in deliciously saturated sunshine colors. This is truly a work of art and she had so many lovely photos I couldn’t use them all in one graphic so you’ll definitely want to see additional views of her stunning quilt on Tamara’s social media on Instagram @remivailstudio and visit Tamara’s shop Remi Vail Studio.
