My new Kindred collection from Art Gallery Fabrics is now shipping to your favorite quilt shops and to celebrate this new fabric collection, there’s a new free pattern on my Freebies page! Some collections have more pattern releases than others but for now there’ll just be two releases this month. I’m right in the middle of packing up my house for a move and we hit the road right when the Kindred Look Book is due to release on May 1st.
Kindred is all about family! She’s the little sister to my Kismet collection for AGF. You’ll see a family resemblance but Kindred has her own bold look and summer-vibe where Big Sis Kismet is more of a classic fall-girl.
I love that this collection release coincides with my moving back home to be near my family. I envision lots of family gatherings and meals around the table and that’s why I chose to make this Twofold Reversible Placemats & Napkins pattern as my free pattern—I want you to also celebrate time with your family and friends and have custom, carefree table settings that fit just your style!
The name, Twofold describes the double-duty of both the placemats and the napkins. Select four of your favorite fabrics: Two that will be the back and front main fabric of the placemats, one for the skinny framing strips and one side of the reversible napkins, and the fourth print for the other side of the napkins to throw in another coordinating print and/or color to the mix!
Here you can see I set the table with half the placemats in one side and the other half flipped to show the alternate side. Very handy for getting two looks without taking up double the space!
Same goes with the napkins to give you a quick make with nicely finished edges and two looks in one napkin. Fancy without the fuss!
I used Hobbs Batting Thermore batting for the optional batting inside my matts for a low padding but you can skip the batting for a simple summer-weight placemat or even use home decor weight or linen for a thicker fabric and no batting. There’s no batting used in the napkins.
Meet the Testers
To truly test out a new pattern, I have a group of talented makers that test and make versions of the project. It’s really fun to see the beautiful creations in color ways and Art Gallery Fabrics of their choosing. Be sure to visit their social platforms linked in their project description to learn more about them, be inspired by their work, and visit their shops or services they offer.
Joyce Ulm - Eva Mae Custom Quilts
Joyce Ulm made this delicious honeybee and gold solid reversible version using only those two fabrics for the placemats and the napkins. To get this look you’ll need to adjust the yardage and do some extra math on your own. This Twofold set would look beautiful spring to fall! You can see more of Joyce’s beautiful work on Instagram @evamaecustomquilts and on her Etsy shop!
Tamara Darragh - Remi Vail Studio
Tamara Darragh is the newest tester member to my Tester Team and she’s knocked it out of the park on her first pattern test for me! I love this classy Farmhouse look with deep dark green, black and white, and natural linen. All fabrics are Art Gallery Fabrics and available as a kit from Tamara’s shop Remi Vail Studio. You can also find Tamara on Instagram @remivailstudio.
Leah Parker Bruski - Lapinsta
I always look forward to seeing the color combinations that Leah puts together for the projects she tests because they always have a decidedly California vibe to them and I love the CA Living relaxed look. Leah mixed prints from several Art Gallery Fabrics collections and came up with this fields of lavender look that’s springtime-fresh! See more of Leah’s makes and follow along on her quilting journey on Instagram @lapinsta.
Marija Vujcic - Mara Quilt Designs
Last but certainly not least is Marija Vujcic of Mara Quilt Designs. Marija is a nature-lover through and through and always selects pretty floral prints. The green Small World print is from my Signature collection for AGF and I love how playful it looks on the placemats! Can we all give her a round of applause for how cut the napkin bow is on the mug handle!!!!! This table setting could work year round and so versatile. Be sure to follow this talented lady on Instagram @maraquiltdesigns and on her blog at Mara Quilt Designs.
Have fun making this fast little project and may you have many wonderful gatherings around the table with lots of laughter and good times! Use the link above to download the free PDF pattern and make some reversible placemats and napkins for yourself, gifts, or maybe a Mother’s Day brunch!
Be sure to stop back at this blog in exactly one week for the Rickrack Quilt pattern release on April 26th! Kits will be available at Lady Belle Fabric and Piper Autumn Fabrics beginning on pattern release day. Also, on May 1st, Art Gallery Fabrics plans to release the Kindred collection Look Book that’s sure to inspire your summer sewing!
Till then, happy sewing!
